Synchrophasor technology was introduced over 30 years ago but did not get due attention until the northeast blackout of 2003 when it was concluded that more detailed monitoring capability for the electricity grid is needed. The ARRA act of 2009 paved the way for wide deployment of the technology in the US transmission grid. The newly-deployed synhcrophasor infrastructure offers many opportunities for legacy Energy Management Applications to be implemented in a new way with improved performance, and new applications were proposed. This panel?s experts from industry and academia will cover state-of-the-art issues with the deployment of synchrophasor technology that range from life cycle management tools to numerous applications and standardization. Future opportunities to deploy this promising technology beyond the transmission grid will also be explored.
