The electric power grid is undergoing an unprecedented transformation into a more efficient, reliable, resilient, and clean infrastructure. This transformation is primarily supported by more comprehensive grid monitoring and control, enabled by advanced metering infrastructure, distribution automation, and phasor measurement units, among other sensing and measurement technologies.

In this paper, we present a novel automatic autonomous vision-based power line inspection system that uses unmanned aerial vehicle inspection as the main inspection method, optical images as the primary data source, and deep learning as the backbone of the data analysis.

This report summarizes the technical activities of the IEEE Task Force on Solving Large Scale Optimization Problems in Electricity Market and Power System Applications. This Task Force was established by the IEEE Technology and Innovation Subcommittee to first review the state-of-the-art of the security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) business model, its mathematical formulation, and solution techniques in solving electricity market clearing problems.

I. INTRODUCTION There have been power electronic applications in the high voltage power system for more than 30 years with contributions from many individuals and companies. The earliest applications and still the largest installations in transmission networks are AC-DC transmission converter stations. Industrial applications include rectifiers, motor drives and static var compensators for voltage control and reduction in flicker from erratic loads such as arc furnaces.
