The concept of synchro-waveforms has recently emerged as a promising frontier in power system monitoring and data-driven applications. By providing access to raw waveform samples, synchro-waveforms can capture not only the typical major disturbances but also the seemingly minor, yet sometimes highly informative, disturbances in voltage and current that are missed by other time-synchronized measurements, such as synchrophasors.
The future electric grid must meet many requirements to successfully adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. Changing societal needs are changing the demands on the grid, including the decarbonization of the electricity supply integrating renewable resources and retiring fossil-fire plants, as well as increased electrification of fossil fuel applications such as supporting electric vehicle charging, and the changing use of space and water heating and cooling capabilities.
The “IEEE Power and Energy Technology Assessment and Roadmap” is the first PES Technical Roadmap report, collaborating with IEEE Technology Roadmaps Committee. It identifies current strategic directions and technology trends to achieve Net Zero. The roadmap spans the next 10+ years to 2035 and provides global strategic goals for the power and energy industry.
