Microprocessor Relays and Protection Systems

This course represents recent developments in the area of microprocessor relays and protection systems for electric power systems. Hardware, that is suitable for use in digital relays, is briefly described. The abses of the relaying algorithms and protection techniques including travelling waves and ultra high speed (UHS) relays are presented. Also outlined are the tasks that a microprocessor relay can perfom in the background. The role of computer relaying in an integrated hierarchical system of computer control and protection of power systems is examined. An extensive bibliography is included for reference.
