Micro-utilities present an opportunity to supply electricity to some of the 1.2 billion people without access to the grid. These small-scale systems are often powered by renewable resources and rely on innovative entrepreneurs in less economically developed countries. This webinar provides the context for micro utilities and their technologies and business models. The webinar also highlights IEEE Smart Village an initiative seeking to empower off grid communities through education and creation of sustainable, affordable and locally-owned entrepreneurial energy businesses. Experiences from electrification projects in Kenya, Zambia and elsewhere are used to illustrate key points.
