The Smart Grid Implementation Grant (SGIG) and Smart Grid Demonstration Program (SGDP) accelerated the installation of smart devices into the electric grid with a total of $4.4B in awards going to 99 participants under SGIG and 30 under SGDP. The US Department of Energy (DOE) tasked the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to lead a team of cybersecurity experts to ensure the awardees were ensuring adequate cybersecurity protection through review of pre-job planning documentation and on-site field visits. After several years of observation and interaction a significant body of knowledge about cybersecurity protection of the electric system has been collected from these projects. This session will feature presentations from experts discussing the impacts of emerging technologies on the grid efficiency and performance.

Chairs:
Mark Morgan, PNNL
