In recent years, the smart grid has been witnessing major transformations that include high penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as wind and solar energy sources, energy storage, electric vehicles (EVs), and microgrids. The increasing adoption of modern cyber technologies—such as advanced sensors, edge computing devices, smart controllers, cloud computing, and IoT technologies—will enable the successful deployment of DERs. While these cyber technologies offer major benefits, they also significantly expand the attack surface to the grid infrastructure. In the past several years, PES panels have focused on the cybersecurity and resiliency of bulk power systems and DERs. In this panel, we will specifically focus on the cybersecurity and resiliency of the EV charging infrastructure. In particular, the cybersecurity of EVs, charging stations, charging management systems, communication protocols, cloud connectivity, and the resiliency of the EV-integrated distribution grid. This panel will assemble researchers and academics from universities and national laboratories who have vast expertise in smart grid, EVs, DERs, and cybersecurity. The goal of this panel is to share knowledge and discuss R&D challenges, innovative technological solutions, and industry standards. The panel will benefit academic researchers, research professionals, and industry practitioners in the IEEE PES community.
