The purpose of this tutorial is to present to the society membership a succint summary of the methods, considerations and current application of engineering economics in light of current industry trends. In recent years significant changes have been sweeping the power industry, including the rapid growth in non-utility generation, the advent of competitive bidding, efforts to differentiate product prices far beyond what traditional service methods have provided, increased pressures for altering ther therms of transmission access, and the need to extend the service lives of our existing inventory of plant and equipment as long as possible.
