Static Var Compensators (SVC) comprised of thyristor controlled reactive devices have been installed on utility systems since the late 1970's in a successful attempt to provide fast leading and lagging reactive compensation. The individual installations of specific benefits of SVC's can vary considerably, with each SVC application representating a unique arrangement within a given electrical and environmental surrounding.
