Economic dispatch is the process of allocating the required load demand between the available generation units such that the cost of operation is minimum. Compared to the problems in the following papers, this is a trivial problem. However, there have been many algorithms proposed for economic dispatch. Some of these algorithms have been expanded to solve more complex problems. This paper is directed to introduce the optimization techniques covered in the accompanying papers.
