This special issue presents seven insightful articles that delve into the economic viability of small modular reactors (SMRs), providing system-bearing ancillary services, fully electric maritime vessels, modeling and simulation of SMR-based power systems, cybersecurity challenges and cyberattack detection mechanisms, hydrogen production, and intrinsic safety features of SMRs. The eighth article is a viewpoint article analyzing SMRs in terms of modularity and evaluating SMRs for addressing the global challenge of decarbonization in the electricity sector by 2050. The issue also includes three articles from regular submission which present the development of a bulk carrier and general cargo ship standard for shore power connections in port, a historic review of the business models of power systems focusing in particular on Tokyo Electric Light Company's forward-looking perspectives on electricity management, and a discussion on electrification education.
