This issue focuses on digital twin technology, a powerful enabler for energy transition. The issue was organized by Bo Yang (Hitachi America) and Nikos Hatziargyriou (National Technical University of Athens). The editors carefully selected one Technology Leaders column and seven feature articles to provide insights and real-world implementations of digital twins. The applications range from situation awareness of wind and solar energy sources, data center modernization, microgrid operation, power electronic converter design, and autonomous driving. The contributing authors are from the U.S. Department of Energy, Hitachi America, Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator, Siemens, Plexigrid, Typhoon HIL Linus Foundation Energy, RTE-France, and academic institutions.
