State of Power Engineering Education in the U.S. and Canada: Overview of Results of the 2013-2014 PEEC Survey (Webinar)

For over 40 years, the Power & Energy Education Committee of the IEEE PES has periodically conducted a survey of universities in the U.S. and Canada. The objectives of a revised on-line survey for the 2013-2014 academic year were to gather information about curriculum and faculty from electrical engineering, four year institutions (1) to promote power engineering careers and education opportunities, (2) to facilitate advancement in power engineering education, and (3) to assess the state of power engineering education and research from a national perspective. The results show that student interest in power and energy engineering has almost doubled since the 2005-2006 survey and that faculty numbers have grown to produce a healthier percentage of young professors. Future challenges are how to best prepare for the coming wave of retirements of experienced faculty, and to understand and respond to the issues associated with high dependency on government support for power engineering research. University faculty and students; industry engineers, management, and human relations professionals; and government personnel interested in energy workforce development will benefit from this webinar.
