While advanced building technologies are enabling buildings to become smarter and more grid-interactive, many value propositions are proposed to transform the commercial and residential buildings into flexible energy resources, which can be leveraged to improve grid resilience, enhance energy efficiency, and reduce carbon emission. It is envisioned that buildings with sufficient renewable and storage energy can be operated as a microgrid, and multiple building microgrids can be coordinated to provide critical grid services for local communities and bulk power systems. This panel aims to discuss the framework that can support the reconfigurable and resilience operation of building microgrids from both utility and building perspectives. The control and coordination strategies, case studies, and testing environment will be discussed.
