With global power industry moving towards net-zero implementation, this would result in low inertia renewable energy dominated power grids. The power cut incident during the 9th August 2019 event in the UK due to the frequency nadir of 48.8 Hz, triggering the automatic LFDD indicated the fundamental challenges of such low inertia power grids.

The aim of this presentation is to show how fast frequency support scheme using blades of wind turbines as very big flywheels without extra investments can be implemented to deal with the challenges.
