When information sharing is restricted, the risk of personnel taking suboptimal actions to resolve problems increases. A cyber security incident with physical ramifications requires collaboration between cyber threat detectors and power systems operators to bring the system back into normal operation. While some have proposed integrated visualization tools that combine the domains of power and cyber, both cyber teams and power grid operators already take in overwhelming amounts of cyber and physical data to properly manage their respective systems. Thus, adding more data to the current displays is not an adequate solution. Instead, visualization dashboards that aim to improve cross collaboration between operators, engineers and cyber defenders are needed. VizEng is a tool developed at INL that focus on three aspects of the system to address this issue: physical health, cyber anomaly detection, and overall system resilience. By providing alerts in these three areas, cyber defenders and power engineers will have a better sense of when collaboration is needed to resolve power systems issues.
