The role of pumped storage hydropower in modern power systems will be very significant due to the power and energy capacity of the power plants. The fast response and flexibility of PSH especially Advanced PSH enables large-scale implementation of renewable energy even in weak-grid conditions where the local grid codes can be very restrictive. This panel will discuss various aspects of pumped storage hydropower, including dynamic response, economic and market design aspects, in a panel discussion forum, to encourage electrical engineers within the Power and Energy Society to participate in research, development, and demonstration of PSH activities, and to open dialog among many different experts and stakeholder organizations for possible future collaborations.
