Panel 19 Jul 2023

Transmission planning for grids with high-penetrated IBR faces many challenges using the conventional grid planning tools. Electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation has become more and more used for grid planning and generator interconnection. In this panel, grid operators and EMT modeling and simulation experts will share their experiences in deal with transmission planning and operation challenges in the era of high penetrations of solar PV, onshore and offshore wind with HVDC delivery. This panel will cover planning and operation challenges in Eversource, Europe, China and how EMT simulation can be used in transmission planning. This panel will also cover fundamentals of EMT simulation, its unique features compared to traditional simulation methods, how to effectively simulate IBRs, and how to conduct analysis. The panelists are well-known industry leaders and researchers. Presentations in this panel session: - Eversource Experience with the Simulation and Operation of Renewable Energy Resources (23PESGM2795) - Offshore wind integration via HVDC and modeling practice (23PESGM2796)
