Panel 19 Jul 2023

FERC Order 2222 has introduced a market entity that can aggregate numerous Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to bid into the ISO/RTO markets. However, the order does not address the cyber security practices, posture, and controls these entities require. The DER Aggregator sits right between the bulk system and the distribution system, having connectivity to both sides of the transmission to distribution interface. This panel will discuss the various security practices employed by DER Aggregators and the DER devices themselves necessary to mitigate against cyber attack. This panel will also provide relevant industry work to adopt device-level protections inside distribution equipment, and what the resulting impact of those device level protection may be in a future dominated by distribution-connected generation. Finally, the panel will discuss cybersecurity certification for DERs. Presentations in this panel session: - Certification of DER: Addressing Cybersecurity (23PESGM2820) - Securing Solar for the Grid (23PESGM2821) - Cybersecurity, DER, and DER Aggregators (23PESGM2822)
