Panel 18 Jul 2023

Power system protection and control plays a critical role in maintaining the dynamic security of the existing and future low-carbon power systems. The recent advancement of the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) technology has created the opportunities to apply the technology to address some of the difficult power system protection and control problems. However, developing AI/ML technology to address practical power system protection and control problems has some unique challenges. At this panel, the panelists, who have been involved in R&D in this area, will share the work they have been undertaking and discuss the unique challenges the technology must overcome before it can be used in practical applications. Presentations in this panel session: - Application of Machine Learning Techniques for Predicting Post-Disturbance Stability Using Synchrophasor Measurements ( 23PESGM0773) - Considerations for AI in Protection (23PESGM0774) - Machine Learning for Fault Detection and Classification in AC and DC Systems (23PESGM0775) - AI-Based Power System Wide-Area Control and Protection (23PESGM0776)
