Panel 18 Jul 2023

Global power systems are undergoing significant transformation towards more reliable and resilient energy infrastures in accordance with technological advances. Renewable energy integration, power electronic based facilities such as inverter based resources (IBRs) and FACTs/HVDC devices, and more have been at the forefront of this technological revolution. In many regions, regulatory policies are imposing increased influence on power grid transformation. New climate-change-driven fuel policies have been at the center of power grid operators and plannersí daily business. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) have inevitably modified the legacy transmission systemís energy management and control functions with more adequate load and DER models. Grid operators are intent on capturing these new technology, policy, and operation requirement changes through power system planning, implementation, and operation. Standardized technology adoption and development on associated power energy business domains have been brought to the attention of global power system operators and IEEE. IEEE PES, ISA, and SA support the Global Power System Transformation Consortium on a variety of topics on this subject, with a focus on localized technology support. At this Panel, we will review the recent regional power system transformation practices and report recent progress. Presentations in this panel session: - Global power system transformation in respect to climate change (23PESGM4394) - Power System Transformation with Net Zero Initiatives (23PESGM4395) - Localized Technology Support for Global Power System Transformation - New Initiative Updates (23PESGM4397)
