As a result of the confluence of energy polices in many jurisdictions and technological innovations, the energy sector is undergoing a major transformation driven by the massive penetration od Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) in front and behind the meter. In this environment the traditional utility centric model is under threat and new revenue and business models are needed to deal with the emerging energy marketplace. At the same time the game has shifted from wholesale markets to distribution energy markets and markets behind the meter, which allow the customers to become proactive, access a diverse supply of clean energy generating resources, enhance overall electric grid performance, reduce their costs, consumption and environmental impacts.
