Panel 19 Jul 2022

Offshore wind energy is an established generation technology in Europe among other places. Building wind turbines that can operate successfully in a marine environment requires special technology. This panel session will present technical developments that will be used in future projects. To accelerate grid decarbonization, many countries have issued strong incentives to significantly increase the installation of renewable energy resources, including offshore wind. The U.S. government has set an ambitious target to install offshore wind generators of 30 GW by 2030. The rapid growth of offshore wind power poses great challenges to the modeling, control, protection, and operation of mainland ac grids. This panel will share the U.S. DOE perspectives on offshore wind integration and lessons learned and best experiences from Europe to provide good guidance for the development of U.S. offshore wind.
