The concept of energy justice, which is rooted in environmental and climate justice research, is focused on equity issues in the processes of energy production, delivery, consumption, and system transition. The effort to transform and decarbonize the electric power system must address the issue of energy justice to ensure equitable access to infrastructure, services, and benefits as the electric grid evolves, while doing so, in a way, that promotes the well-being of all populations. This suggests that œsocial value becomes a design driver for the electric power system in addition to technical-economic aspects. The US Department of Energy will describe the topic of energy justice and how it will shape the future of the electric power system.
