US ˜Coopetition™ with China in Clean Energy Leadership and Job Creation

The west led the world in the industrial revolution but has lagged in its ability to provide leadership in the green energy revolution. The new administration has put an emphasis on clean energy leadership with the desire of creating millions of well-paid jobs by making the U.S. an export champion in clean technologies. Such actions are framed as competition to beat China in sectors like wind and solar (where almost 70% of the world™s solar panels are manufactured, 6/10 wind manufacturers are based, and over 80% of the world™s battery manufacturing capacity). The panel will explore the possibilities of the U.S. competing with China in areas of clean energy manufacturing and ways the U.S. can best catch-up with China. In parallel, the panel will also discuss the best approaches to compete with China while co-operating in joint work and development around important technologies such as carbon capture, storage, hydrogen power, and smart grid.
