Developing an electric industry workforce to meet the needs of the evolving modern electric grid is a significant challenge. The power system is experiencing unprecedented changes in technology that is revolutionizing the power system and how it will be managed and operated going forward. The dual impact of the rise of œEdge of Grid (EOG) technologies, often called distributed energy resources (DER), and the invasion of digital technology that is transforming the entire production, delivery, storage and the use (including flexible loads) process. Designing and implementing a new electric power system curriculum at the university level for engineers and data scientists is the focus of EPRI™s Grid Ready Energy Analytics Training with Data (GREAT) via a contract with the U.S. DOE. EPRI and its Partner universities are developing the new curriculum. This panel will share the development experience that begins with a Gap Analysis of existing curriculum. Furthermore, the panel will discuss how the developed curriculum may help with career promotion for utility engineers and data scientists.
