Electric grids simulations have long been a part of engineering education.  However, with the recent rapid changes in electric grids worldwide they are becoming indispensable.  Examples of these changes include the need to integrate large amounts of renewable, an increasingly active load, a growing amount of automated control, and greatly enhanced communication and computational capabilities.  The panel™s goal is to provide an overview of recent developments in the application of electric grid simulators to education to a variety of different audiences including undergraduates, graduates, practicing electric power engineers, and nontechnical professionals in the electric power industry.  The panel will show a variety of examples of how simulators can give such students a much better understanding of the grid.  Presented examples will include single and team operation of a large-scale electric grid, the application of cyber-security simulations, the inclusion of hardware in the loop in interactive simulators, and electricity market simulators.
