There has recently been an increased interest and deployment in various types of power system resources that combine different technologies. These can be in the form of hybrid power plants connected at one single point (such as wind, solar or gas plus battery energy storage), or can take the form of virtual power plants that aggregate large numbers of, often different, distributed energy resources. This panel will explore these increasingly prevalent resource types from several angles. Developers and equipment manufacturers will show the value of deploying such resources and experiences thus far. Utilities and system operators will describe new challenges for integrating such resources in market and system operations and planning. Finally, researchers will describe how these resources may evolve and impact future energy network development. Experiences across the world will be shared and the panel will discuss new learnings and research needs.
