Several utilities and industries have adopted real-time (RT) hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations as an integral part of their HVDC and FACTS project cycle. It helps to thoroughly validate and debug the control system prior to deployment, it expedites field commissioning and it allows various investigations during the lifecycle of the equipment. This panel session invites experts from some of the major utilities using RT simulation tools to present:
• Their organization’s views on HIL studies, how they are integrated in their project cycle and how it benefits their organization;
• How they are using HIL through out the life cycle of the equipment;
• Their experience and feedback with HIL-assisted projects.
The first objective of this session is to give to the PES community a feedback from the utilities on RT EMT simulation for HIL power system studies and the second is to increase community awareness on this essential tool.
