Panel Session 05 Aug 2020

Deep decarbonisation and clean electrification efforts will drive significant increases in demand on the electric grid from new building loads. While this will present a significant technical and economic challenge to utilities and regulators, it is also an opportunity for the grid to gain additional flexibility resources. Intelligent advanced optimization and control techniques will shift buildings from passive receivers of electricity to active participants in the grid that can support, e.g., integration of variable renewables.
This panel presents state-of-the-art research and demonstrations in this emerging field of grid interactive buildings and their integration from a diverse background of stakeholders. Presentations will span device to grid level and will look at potential impacts to end-users, industry, and utilities.
