Panel Session 05 Aug 2020

Maintaining the reliability, resilience and security of the power grid is a fundamental aspect of its operation. As the electric grid is undergoing major changes, the challenge as well as the necessity of planning and maintaining secure and resilient operation of transmission and distribution systems is growing.
The proposed panel session will share cutting-edge industry experience and innovative research related to understanding, predicting, analyzing and preventing cascading outages. The panel session will focus on practical applications in assessing the impact of cascading outages and identifying measures for improving the resilience of power grids to such cascading mechanisms. It will discuss the impact as well as contributions of new technologies, e.g., renewable energy sources, storage systems, microgrids, and PMUs, on these cascading phenomena.
The proposed panel session features experts from industry and academia who will describe their experience and discuss their vision on effectively addressing cascading failures in the changing grid.
