Panel Session 04 Aug 2020

Recent real-world events, e.g., UK August 2019 power cut, indicate oscillations in subsynchronous range in wind farms, may cause operation issues. Thus, wind SSO draws a strong interest from both industry and academia, on both R&D and education. This panel will have panelists from grid operators with first-hand experience on recent real-world events to present event data and counter-measures. In addition, advanced modeling and control shaped to solve the real-world problems are presented by panelists from universities, national labs, and R&D units of the industry. The panel discussion will include how to better model wind or inverter-based resource (IBR) penetrated power grids, and how to better shape University’s education to meet the R&D requirement.
