Today’s power systems are evolving with an increasing penetration of power electronics interfaced devices, resulting in complex, fast and unusual dynamics. Thanks to the development of phasor measurements units and Merging Units for the synchronized instantaneous ‘points on wave’ measurements, the development of new state estimation algorithms for tracking complex dynamics of power electronics-dominated systems are in critical needs. This panel will discuss challenges for state estimation in power electronics-dominated systems and provide possible solutions, to ensure applicability of state estimation in future power systems.
