Panel Session 03 Aug 2020

2015 Paris Agreement is targeted to control the global average temperature below 1.5 ℃, thus accelerating a renewable dominated transformation for greenhouse gas mitigation. Up to now, different countries have issued environmental policies and developed renewable and distributed energy resources to reach such transformation. For example, California has announced an ambitious goal of 50% renewable portfolio standard by 2030. China has been managing one of the world largest renewable generation industries, and such industry is expected to keep fast-growing in the following years. Recently, some research institutes have proposed various pathways and policy suggestions to develop a future smart grid toward 100% renewable energy penetrated. This panel will discuss the state-of-the-art and prospective of the related technologies and projects:
i) Critical technologies for renewable dominated transformation;
ii) Barriers of achieving power grids with high-penetration of renewable energy;
iii) Projects and experience for renewable dominated transformation.
