Panel 12 Aug 2019

This panel will take a practical look at the current and future challenges of increasing penetration of inverter-based resources. The panel will provide an overview grid disturbances that NERC has analyzed and the actions following those events. Experience from generator owner/operators and inverter manufacturers will be discussed. Modeling and simulation challenges moving forward will be highlighted, as well as potential modeling improvements to capture high IBR phenomena. Lastly, actual experiences from the transmission side including controls interactions with IBR, low short circuit strength areas, decreasing system inertia, etc., will be discussed.
