Panel 12 Aug 2019

There are several value streams in power systems operation that can be captured by energy storage systems. Generally, these different value streams are stacked together when attempting to assess the value of storage to the grid or its participants. However, the value of storage is contingent on the market structure of the region where the storage device is being considered. The goal of this panel session is to identify the similarities and differences associated with the economics of battery storage in vertically integrated and deregulated markets, considering the models and methods used to evaluate costs and benefits. Moreover, the main challenges affecting the deployment of storage in markets will be discussed and possible of future paths will be outlined.
