Panel Session 06 Aug 2019

The automation of the electric distribution line device is a fundamental building block for the Smart Grid. Like the construction of Rome, the automation of the distribution system has been a gradual process. However, the successful automation efforts will achieve the goal of full automation with a strategy and a timeline that is consistently and steadily expanding the automation to the distribution line devices. This panel session will explore the utility perspective for automating the electric distribution system. Line sensing auxiliary devices will be discussed for collecting distribution line telemetry for analog and status measurements. The planning perspective will be discussed for the expansion of automation throughout the distribution system. An integration strategy will be presented to achieve automation throughout the electric distribution system.
