Panel Session 06 Aug 2019

This panel presents a selection information system developments that aim to fully enable and enhance Transmission System Operator Distribution System Operator interaction. Specific details of US, China and European R&D activities will also be presented. The panel session will highlight that overall power system operation and planning will be required to change significantly as a consequence of ongoing and emerging active distribution network developments. The conventional approach to the operation and planning of transmission and distribution networks as virtually separate entities, with limited coordination, will no longer be applicable or practical in the near future. In addition, quantifiable business or use cases will be assessed in order to justify required levels of data and information exchange to enable enhanced TSO-DSO interaction.
