Panel 28 Sep 2018

The physical power system increasingly relies on the cyber system for monitoring, control and optimal operation. Therefore, the reliable operation of the power system is highly dependent on the reliability of the associated cyber system. Risk analysis, reliability evaluation, and stability control of power systems should therefore incorporate the impact of the cyber system. How to model the cyber-physical power system (CPPS) becomes the first and the most critical step in studying this system. The integrated cyber-physical power system is complex, featuring a mixture of discrete events and continuous processes. Currently, there is no comprehensive methodological basis for the modeling of CPPS, but novel approaches are emerging. This panel will discuss the challenges involved in modelling of CPPS and the latest research achievements in this area. The panelists will share their experiences in modelling various cyber-physical sub-systems in power grid and how they apply the models for various analysis.
