The purpose of this tutorial is to inform and educate engineers on the following topics:
1. The limitations of basic electrical meters such as voltmeters, amperemeters, wattmeters, and energy meters under distorted waveform conditions.
2. Introduction of new instrumentation techniques appropriate for accurate measurements of electrical values in nonsinusoidal situations.
3. A critical review of existing definitions of Apparent and Reactive power in systems with nonsinusoidal waveforms.
